The change feels like it has finally come here in Auckland/Waiheke, the winds have picked up, even a little much needed rain, the seas are choppy and changeable, and I’ve started wearing socks again. The summer felt eternal this year and I must admit I am enjoying the relief of cool winds and the Autumn colours beginning to appear. It’s great to feel a bit cooler in the dance space too and I’m loving the explorations of the Rhythms we’ve been sharing recently.
Many changes for me too as I ride the waves of my first pregnancy, re-finding the dance as my body grows, surrendering to new needs of rest and nourishment and the joy of connecting with the new life within.
I feel very supported by the practice of the 5Rhythms, not only the physical movement of it but also the deep philosophy which is grounded within it. The value of trusting our body’s innate wisdom, the allowing our emotions to move through us, the surrender to life’s currents, the holding any experience with lightness and recognising the mystery at the centre of it all.
In many ways, pregnancy and birthing are metaphors for what any profound creative process will entail in life. We are called upon to let go of our fixed ideas of who we are, to connect to something greater and infinitely wiser than the “little me” and become more of who we truly are. In this the dance is an invaluable tool, we come back to the practice time and again and perhaps there are glimpses of this “letting go of self”, finding true self; along the way until we begin to trust and surrender more fully to the deepest part of our being.

I am also dancing the 5 rhythms’ wave pregnant. The changes- body an soul can be overwhelming, and no doubt that the rhythms help me honor, explore, move and flow with those changes.
through the wave,I feel this new person growing inside me, growing himself, dancing with me…now it is the dance of a couple…hope to dance and grow more…

Beautiful to hear from you. Yes the dance really continues for me, through the birth and now in daily life with a new being. My sense of the wave is deepening, as my heart expands and I am required to be truly in service, going with another’s rhythms and opening more of myself to love than I ever have before. Pretty amazing – an everyday, domestic sort of transformation. I wish you many blessings for birth and beyond. Poem below given by a friend.
God be with the Mother as she carries her child may she carry her soul. As her child is born may she give birth and life and form to her own higher truth. As she nourishes and protects her child may she nourish and protect her inner life and her independence. For her soul shall be her most painful birth, her most difficult child and the dearest sister to her other children.
