In the 5Rhythms practice there are usually one or more of the Rhythms we feel comfortable and at home in – where we find our groove easily, connect with ourselves and could happily keep dancing on and on. Then, there are those that feel less known, more awkward to us, too slow or too fast, just not our natural rhythm.
The beautiful thing is how we can get to know ourselves more deeply through these rhythms – where is my home rhythm, how does that support me in my life, how may it hold me back at times?
Also, of course we can discover the gifts of the rhythms less comfortable to us – how can this rhythm support me, what possibilities does it open up in me and in the way I connect with others.
There can be a wonderful sense of alignment with oneself in recognising a home rhythm, and a tremendous potential for growth in exploring the other rhythms.
For myself I feel very at home in the rhythm of Flowing, could dance it all day, adore Flowing music and at best I flow through my day to day life – moving, grounded and staying connected to my body and the earth. There’s definitely other rhythms making regular appearances but at present I’m quite a flowing being.
Then comes Staccato, I have learnt so much from this rhythm which did not come naturally to me – being on the beat, connecting with others in the dance, expressing with heartfelt clarity – such rich territory. Mostly Staccato has helped me get clear with getting the work I love out there, expressing it out. It also helps hugely in loving direct communication.
Each of the rhythms has their unique gifts to offer us, a fun and profound means to explore our strengths and our challenges.
